This seminar provides an overview of the lifestyle of the Chinese middle class by focusing on a diverse set of topics including family structure, relationships, social representations, class-based consumption, and gender. Students are required to conduct an individual research project on the Chinese middle class in Berlin. The course includes in-house sessions that will be taught in blocks before and after the fieldwork phase. Practical experience in research and the interpretation of data will allow students to explore the causal factors that help shape the Chinese middle class based on cultural backgrounds and reflections.
