SoSe 23: Psychophysiological Methods in Research and Teaching (Übung mit Prüfungsoption)

This course provides an introduction to the field of psychophysiology, which involves the measurement of physiological reactions in relation to psychological events and processes using non-invasive methods. The focus of the course will be on electrical activity measurement techniques, including Electroencephalogram (EEG), Event-Related Potentials (ERPs), Electrodermal activity (EDA), Electrocardiogram (ECG), Electrooculogram (EOG), and Electromyography (EMG). The course will be taught using a flipped classroom approach, where students are expected to read relevant materials and papers before each in-person class. This will facilitate active discussions and hands-on activities during class time. The course format is hybrid, with both in-person and online components. The online component will provide the theoretical basis for each psychophysiological method (via Blockboard), while the in-person component will allow students to apply their knowledge and engage in discussions with their peers and the lecturer. This course is suitable for individuals who are interested in exploring the intersection of physiology and psychology, and its potential applications in fields such as cognitive neuroscience, psychology, and clinical research. Prior knowledge or background in these techniques is not necessary, but anyone with prior experience is welcome to attend.
