SoSe 23: Opening Anthropology to non-Humans: a critical look into anthropocentrism
Ozan Zeybek
Kommentar
This seminar is about more-than-human collectives, and more specifically, about animals. Drawing on Science-Technology Studies (STS), we will complicate some of the basic social/anthropological categories such as the household, family, nation, class, community etc. by increasing the number of actors involved in the making of these categories. What would it mean, if we moved away from the idea that humans are the only actors shaping their environment? How would human-only narratives, classifications and representations change if we took into account our fragile interconnections with non-human others? In that respect, the broader aim of the seminar is to challenge the extent of "human" rights, democracy, development, progress, or even the idea of "anthropo-" itself - considering the fact that billions of non-humans reside in the human body and that human survival depends on them.
