SoSe 23: (Un)rooting practices: Methods in Naturalcultural Artistic Research
Siobhan Leddy
Kommentar
This seminar blends theory and practice to ask how artistic research can generate unexpected forms of knowledge. Students will learn how to develop their own methodologies for artistic research about and with Floating University, a natureculture learning site near Berlin’s Tempelhofer Feld. Students will also engage with other locations in the city, such as the Botanical Garden and SAP Space.
The seminar will thematically consider lifecycles, naturecultures, multispecies collaborations, situatedness, materials and matter, coalescences, curating and collecting natures/cultures, and knowledge practices. Several sessions will be focused on providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their artistic research, using both artistic examples and theoretical texts.
Through site visits and meaningful engagements with place, students will develop a set of methods and practices for artistic research over the semester. This will then be shared in a public research-sharing day, to be held at Floating University in summer 2023.
