In this class „Introduction to study techniques“ you will learn to advance your skills in academic writing. Based on Virginia Woolf’s short story The Mark on the Wall as well as her essay Modern Fiction we will exemplify a step-to-step process of writing an academic paper/term paper. From finding an appropriate and interesting research question and how to research properly, to achieving a successful argumentative structure for your papers, this class is an ongoing and open process, intended to answer any open questions you may have related to academic writing. Even though a relatively timed curriculum is given, this course is designed to answer your individual questions and help you overcome any obstacles you may encounter in your work. Together we will build a set of skills, which will be useful throughout your academic career.

The class will take place bi-weekly: Wednesdays, 16-18 ct. (start: 3.5.2023). It will take place in room K 31/201.

Regular attendance is due to the organisation of the schedule appreciated. If you only want to partake in a few classes, you can do so by writing me an email a week before your preferred class so we can both be prepared (kira.schmitz@fu-berlin.de).

It is highly appreciated – but not obligatory – to read the following texts before the first session:

Woolf, Virginia: Modern Fiction (1925)
