The field of psychophysiology provides insight into how individual differences are expressed in physiological responses to psychological stimuli. This course introduces students to the cutting-edge field of psychophysiology, emphasising the techniques and methods used to measure electrical activity in response to psychological events. Key methods covered include Electroencephalogram (EEG), Event-Related Potentials (ERPs), Electrodermal activity (EDA), Electrocardiogram (ECG), Electrooculogram (EOG), and Electromyography (EMG).
Embracing a flipped classroom paradigm, students are prompted to immerse themselves in curated readings and resources before our in-person engagements. This proactive approach ensures our face-to-face interactions are enriched with insightful discussions, experiential learning, and a deep dive into the nuances of individual physiological reactions. Structured as a hybrid curriculum, this course integrates online theoretical expositions, available on Blackboard, with hands-on, in-person explorations. These in-person sessions are meticulously crafted to accentuate the depth and breadth of individual variances in psychophysiological responses.
