Microscopic analysis of permanent and fresh preparations. Preparations of e.g. insects, snails, fish and wild mammals are used to find and characterize parasites. Examination of faecal samples for parasite stages.
Contents:
Introduction to mutualistic and parasitc systems. Biology, life cycles, and anatomy/morphology of unicellular parasites and mutualists, animal parasites (worms, arthropods), and gall inducers on plants are discussed. Some half-day excursions for collecting material (botanical garden) and getting to know relevant institutes. Qualification aims:
After completing the module, the students will possess in-depth knowledge of the biology, anatomy, and morphology of parasites and mutualists. They will be able to independently apply microscopic methods and perform preparations to detect and characterize parasites. Schließen
