WiSe 23/24: Geopolitics and the End of the Post Post-Cold War Order

In this seminar, we will critically (re-)assess the alleged return of geopolitics. Starting with a discussion of geopolitical thought of the early 20th century (Mackinder, Kjellén and Haushofer) we will re-examine the unipolar moment of the post-Cold War Order before moving on to an analysis of the current era of multipolarity, superpower rivalry and the changes in the structure of international organizations. The class will feature case studies on China, Russia, the US and NATO. As part of the course, students will draft a policy paper. Schließen
