Kommentar
The course is designed for students with a background in social sciences and humanities, who want to develop their skills in quantitative data analysis. The concept of regression analysis and causal analysis as well as advanced quantitative methods, including methods of panel data analysis will be explained in simple and understandable language, with examples based on research papers and real data. Various quantitative methods will be explained with examples from different topics in the social sciences, including labour economics and economics of education, public economics, political economy and political sciences, gender studies and others.
During the course students will learn how to do a quantitative analysis using Stata – a statistical package, which is used by many researchers in social sciences and international organizations. The class includes the theoretical part, in which we will consider the main methods of advanced quantitative analysis in application to different research problems, and practical sessions, which include application of these methods in Stata. The course will be particularly useful for students, who want to use quantitative analysis in their term papers, Master’s thesis or continue their studies in PhD programmes.
Active Participation: At the end of each practical session, students have to fill in questionnaires, based on questions on empirical analysis of the data and lecture material. During the course students will also present in a group the methodology and main results of the research paper from the reading list. Students need to i) solve at least 4 out of 6 seminar questionnaires with at least 60% of correct answers, ii) present one research paper from the reading list in a group with other students Schließen
