SoSe 24: Feminist and antifeminist discourse in (social) media
Annabella Marie Backes Ana Makhashvili
Kommentar
Feminist issues have become a contested field of public communication. Media discourses on abortion, transgender people, sexual self-determination trigger strong and loud reactions that do not come by chance but are the result of strategically networked antifeminist formations. This is especially true of public communication on social media. To understand the dynamics of hashtag publics like #MeToo, #NiUnaMenos as well as #FrauenSagenNein or #prochoice and #MarschfuerdasLeben, traditional concepts of deliberation are obviously not enough. Perspectives from affect studies and emotion theory, however, help to grasp the discursive formation of media discourses on gender issues as developed in depth in the CRC Affective Societies.
This class builds on the corresponding seminar in the winter semester 2023/2024. While the winter semester was primarily devoted to theoretical and conceptual work, this summer semester empirical analyses will be conducted by (small) teams of students. The seminar offers insights into methodological approaches and supports the students in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the respective empirical analysis. Participation is only possible for students who have already taken part in the winter semester. Schließen
