SoSe 24: Entangled Histories of Europe and the Middle East in the Modern Era
Joseph Prestel
Kommentar
In this seminar, we will look at different ways in which the modern histories of Europe and the Middle East became entangled in the modern era. We will start from the very concepts of “Europe” and the “Middle East” and how they emerged in relation to each other, during the Age of Empire. We will study how political and armed conflicts like the Second World War contributed to an increased interaction between the world regions. And we will analyze how the Middle East and Europe became increasingly economically tied to each other, over the course of the twentieth century. By considering these two world regions together, we will ultimately probe the approach of transregional history and its potential contribution to global histories of the modern era. Schließen
