Computational Methods and Qualitative Research

Kommentar
In recent years, computational methods have been widely adopted across various disciplines, including communication studies. Combining computational tools with traditional qualitative approaches offers even greater opportunities to explore complex, especially digital, communication phenomena.
In this seminar, we will introduce how to conduct computational methods using Python and analyze research results with qualitative methods. We will cover a range of computational techniques, including web crawling, text mining, topic modeling, and word embedding. Following this, we will discuss how these methods can be combined with qualitative analysis to uncover deeper social and political implications. You will engage with computational tools hands-on, applying them to your own studies and completing your research projects with qualitative analysis.
Prior knowledge or experience in Python (or R) or qualitative research is preferred but not required. However, please note that this is not a comprehensive programming class but rather a practical one. Unlike general programming courses, you will not learn coding from the basics. Instead, this seminar will focus only on specific codes for word processing and certain types of computational methods.
