WiSe 22/23: (HS)Aramaic Linguistics and Dialektology

In this course, we will first read selected passages from the book of Ezra and the book of Daniel, highlighting the dialectal and linguistic features of Imperial Aramaic and Middle Aramaic, but some Old Aramaic inscriptions will also be discussed in comparison with Biblical Aramaic. Afterwards, we will examine features of Neo-Aramaic from different modern dialects. Students will acquire a good diachronic understanding of Aramaic through this course. close
