Contents:
How do herbivorous insects choose and localise their host plants and how do plants respond to a herbivore attack? Odours emanating from plants and changes of the odour composition induced by herbivory will be investigated using state of the art analytical methods. Students will apply behavioural expriments to explore how insects choose among host plants based on chemical stimuli indicating a suitable plant species or plant state.

Qualifcation objectives:
Students will gain knowledge on current research topics in the field of chemically mediated plant – animal interactions and their molecular basis. Techniques to analyse complex ecological relationships will be another focus. Students learn to apply analytical as well as behavioural methods and to analyse the resulting data. This master module will qualify students to develop experimental concepts addressing current ecological research questions and to analyse resulting scientific data. Futhermore, they will deepen their skills in presenting scientific data in a coherent way and in critical discucssion. close
