The seminar focuses on introducing the key elements of modern comparative authoritarianism research, with a particular focus on the post-Soviet Eurasia. The last decade has witnessed both a growing impact of authoritarian regimes on international arena and enormous advancements in the research on authoritarian regimes. We will discuss the key elements of authoritarian rule and factors of authoritarian stability, internal and international dimensions of authoritarianism, as well as (primarily quantitative) methods of studying authoritarian regimes.
