SoSe 23: Ethical principles in social science

The course is devoted to provide a review of current research ethics in social sciences. In the course we will look at the concept of academic integrity and evolution of research ethics. The course will discuss different aspect of ethics including authorship principles, citations, data protection and storage, ethical approval, privacy, research on humans and vulnerable groups. We will look at the regulation of ethical principles of research. Another topic of the course will be devoted to recent cases of academic dishonesty in Germany, Central and Eastern Europe and worldwide, post-publication investigations and consequences. A special attention will be given to the analysis of difference between quality and problematic journals (predatory and hijacked).
