SoSe 23: LECTURE Sociology of Entanglements: Global and Regional Transformations
Sergio Costa & Fabio Heupel Santos
Comments
This lecture course is an introduction into the sociology of global entanglements which posits that social transformations reflect interdependent processes that take place in various world regions simultaneously. Sociologists have for a long time underestimated these interdependencies, instead focusing on allegedly isolated national societies and their distinct “cultures”. A growing number of critical works from fields such as post- and decolonial sociologies have therefore developed new approaches grasping global, transnational and transregional entanglements. In its first part, this course will offer a comparative overview of these new perspectives, highlighting their analytical promises and deficits. The second part is dedicated to studying themes of global relevance to illustrate entanglements across time and space.
