SoSe 23: World History Conceptions in the ancient Historiography

Die moderne Global-, Universal- oder Weltgeschichtsforschung erfreut sich schon seit einigen Jahren großer Beliebtheit in der internationalen Geschichtswissenschaft. Ansätze und Konzepte darüber, wie man die gesamte Geschichte der bekannten Welt von ihrem Beginn an beschreiben könne, gab es auch in der Antike in unterschiedlichster Weise. Das Hauptseminar wird den antiken Vorstellungen von Weltgeschichte nachgehen, indem die wichtigsten griechischen und römischen Verfasser von „Universalgeschichten“ wie Ephoros, Diodor oder Pompeius Trogus sowie auch die christlichen Ansätze (wie Euseb oder Orosius) in Augenschein genommen und ihre Geschichtskonzeption(en) erarbeitet und gegenübergestellt werden. close
