SoSe 23: The Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s: Global and Local Contexts
Hannes Grandits
Comments
The end of the socialist regimes in Europe and the fall of the Berlin Wall seemed to indicate that the Cold War antagonisms were more permanently in dissolution. However, the tragic wars in the wake of the Yugoslav state collapse of the 1990s not only shocked local and international society, public opinion and politics. They also deeply questioned the vision of a "Europe as a continent of peace".
This seminar will analyse how the internal dynamics of the political system change in the former Yugoslavia took place, how they were also linked to geopolitical constellations and how the wars in Yugoslavia began, proceeded and were finally brought to an end. close
