SoSe 23: Introduction to East Asian Art History: Material Culture

In course sessions the instructor speaks mainly in English; participants can feel free to communicate either in English or German.
Comments
The course serves as an introduction to the subjects of study of East Asian art history. Through joint exercise of object description and discussion of selected readings, individual topics, including bronzes, Buddhist art, painting, calligraphy, ceramics, lacquer art, and architecture, will be presented and handled. The objective of the course is to provide initial insights into the pivotal genres, stylistic periods and theoretical terms of the field. The course assessment is in the form of a written exam, which takes place in the last session. close
