What „magic“ is, defines the other.
In a Christian context, it means those practises which do not fit into a
monotheistic world view; already in the Old Testament, these practices
obtain a negative connotation („The wich of Ensor“).
Especially Byzantine Magic participates into the turn towards non –
controlled practices during Roman Imperial times (Apollonios). We will
focus on this by reading texts. The main objective ist he transmission of
these practices to the Middle Ages.
