Lena Partzsch

Comments

Climate change has recently received a lot of attention, but global environmental governance deals with a much broader range of problems, including deforestation, ocean pollution, and freshwater scarcity. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an effort to integrate environmental governance and socio-economic development. This course provides an introduction to the most important areas of global sustainability governance for the environment. Based on secondary readings, we will explore and discuss different perceptions, key actors and institutions, and innovative and alternative forms of environmental governance. As part of this course, student teams systematically develop research designs to study the implementation of global goals by nation states. Students then individually realize these designs for their term papers (Hausarbeit). The aim of this course is to gain a better understanding of the full spectrum of environmental governance challenges, while becoming an expert in a particular field and country. Participation in this course requires a willingness to make active contributions, for example in small group work and discussions. All texts provided for the course must be read in advance of each session. Attendance at each session is required. close
