SoSe 23: Guilt, Debt and Social Subjugation
Rolf-Dieter Hepp
Comments
Debt is not borrowed or lent money, but constitutes a social relationship of dependence and subjection. The social political and moral ruptures that the creditor-debtor relationship entails will be elaborated during the seminar. A special interest will be put on the production of progress, which is inherent in this relationship, since the debtor simultaneously pledges his future with the repayment. The extent to which the concept of debt is linked to topoi such as religious, legal, power-theoretical and moral patterns, and thus inscribed in a structured way in social forms, constitutes a relevant point of reference within the discussion of the problem of debt.
