WiSe 23/24: Life Cycles, Intergenerationality and Personhood
Márcio da Cunha Vilar
Comments
The objective of this seminar is to learn and discuss anthropological investigations related to how people - in the context of intergenerational encounters in different settings - perceive, feel, think and act towards each other and their environments, and how related attitudes might affect and be affected by their respective societies (broadly speaking). A central concern of this seminar comprises the ways through which one socio-culturally responds to the marks left by the passage of time, to (re)produce social structures and particular notions of what a person is (which frequently precedes one’s birth). Participants are expected to engage with anthropological accounts that explore intersections between age, affiliation and reproduction, mainly in contemporary realities, as gateways for further analytical possibilities. close
