WiSe 23/24: Modern Korean Society and Culture

This class deals with the major themes that make up contemporary Korean society and culture. The first half of the course focuses on the Korean cultural industry and popular culture from a historical perspective. Broder issues such as family, gender, youth, labour, social movement, digital industry and consumption that constitute the modern identity of Koreans are analysed in the second part of the class. Participants in this class write response papers about their weekly readings and post them on the bulletin board. This class is conducted jointly by instructors from Yonsei University and the Free University of Berlin. close
