Sebastian Jobs
Comments
This class is an introduction to slavery, one of the most discussed and research topics of United States history. The course aims to give students a basic understanding of the chronology of slavery from the colonial “indentured servitude” to the Calhounian “peculiar institution” of the 19th century South. In addition to that we will discuss central themes that help to understand the institution, its stability and frailty, as it was perceived by contemporaries and conceptualized by historians. Topics include resistance, gender, family, violence and race as well as slave trade and abolitionism. close
