This lecture teaches the basic understanding of natural hazard and risk modelling (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, flooding …). The understanding will be deepened for earthquakes and seismic hazard and risk analysis.
Content: Natural hazards and catastrophes, exposure, catastrophe risk, basic understanding and quantification, components of natural hazard and risk modelling, probabilistic seismic hazard and risk analysis, predictability, uncertainty, probabilities, extreme events, resilience, statistical methods, random variables and processes.
