WiSe 23/24: SWP: Frameworks for teaching in Computer Engineering

The Telematics & Computer Systems research group is planning an extensive revision of the Computer Engineering courses. In addition to new lecture materials, we would also like to revise the exercises, adapt them to new hardware generations and implement new didactic concepts. For this we are looking for creative input and committed support from students who are interested in actively shaping the teaching of the next generation!
You will not be given many content-related guidelines and will be allowed to participate very freely. The new frameworks should cover exercises for the lectures Computer Architecture, Operating and Communication Systems, Architecture of Embedded Systems, Mobile Communication, Telematics, Microprocessor Practicum and should gladly offer convenient features like autograding. It is desirable that you have successfully attended at least one of these courses and enjoy the content. Hardware platforms available are STM 32L496GDISCOVERY boards, ESP32-DevKitC-32D, Raspberry Pi 4 Mod. B, and ESP32-C3-WROOM-02 development boards. Additional hardware, such as WiFi or Bluetooth sniffers, can be obtained if needed.
The topics will be worked on exclusively in small groups (2-5 students). Collaboration and backup of the developed code is done via the department's own Gitlab or a public Github. The results are to be documented appropriately, e.g. via the Git readme files and a well-structured wiki. Modularity and extensibility of the developed code and top documentation are crucial for the success of this software project!
About the process: This software project takes place during the semester. There are few meetings with all participants, but these are mandatory. In addition, there are short weekly meetings, in which at least 1 group member reports on the current status, whereby we want to have talked to all members in the course of a month. At the first meeting (17.10.2023) the list of topics will be handed out and discussed. To the next week (24.10.2023) then takes place the topic allocation. After that, there will be a total of 3 presentation dates: the topic presentation (07.11.2023), a short interim presentation (12.12.2023) and the final presentation (13.02.2024).
