Sutapa Chakrabarti, Florian Heyd
Information for students
Contents: Man-made climate change, carbon cycle, temperature and biochemical reactions, enzyme kinetics and temperature adaptation, protein folding, extremophiles, biological thermometers and temperature compensation, effect of small temperature changes in humans, carbon fixation in plants, plants and global warming, the effect of global warming on oceans and tropical diseases, methods of carbon fixation, synthetic biology, green energy
close
Additional information / Pre-requisites
Admission requirements/restriction: Fundamentals of biochemistry (BCI),
Biochemical block practical course (BBP) is recommended
Comments
Qualification goals: Students will know the basics of climate change and its impact, especially the role of small temperature changes, on molecular biological processes, biochemical reactions, cells and organisms. In addition, students will know the biochemical basis of green energy production, and natural and synthetic carbon fixation. Students will be able to critically analyze theoretical concepts and will have the basis for practical work in the respective areas.
