Specific knowledge of relevant languages (Akkadian, Hittite) is not a prerequisite for participation, but certainly helpful.
Comments
The cuneiform tradition contains a large number of historiographically relevant sources of various kinds, but is considered by many to be deficient in comparison with more recent Greek historiography, for example, as regards the requirements of “real” historiography. Using selected examples, basic questions of the analysis of historiographical sources and their interpretation will be discussed, with a focus on the Late Bronze Age, i.e. sources from around the second half of the 2nd millennium. close
