SoSe 24: "The fragrant branch" : culture and history of al-Andalus (seminar)
Isabel Toral-Niehoff
Comments
The course focuses on the culture and history of the Arab-Islamic cultural epoch on the Iberian Peninsula, with special emphasis on literary forms of expression and aspects of multiculturalism. Central themes are cultural and linguistic hybridization, cultural boundaries and identity discourses, as well as translation. On the other hand, the broad reception of "al-Andalus" as a cultural-political myth in the modern Arab world ("Golden Age") as well as in the Western context ("Convivencia") will be discussed. Knowledge of Spanish is not required, but desirable. close
