SoSe 24: The politics of poverty in the PRC
Sabrina Habich-Sobiegalla
Comments
This seminar focuses on the phenomenon, discourse, and politics of poverty in the People's Republic of China. Through intensive reading of various genres of Chinese language texts (government documents, scholarly articles, and excerpts from novels), students will engage with the theme of "poverty" since the inception of the People's Republic of China. Apart from investigating the politics of poverty in China, the course seeks to introduce students to searching, reading and analyzing Chinese texts in preparation of their MA thesis. Students are not expected to already possess a perfect command of Chinese; rather, they should bring a willingness and eagerness to engage more deeply with Chinese readings. close
