Hanna Szabó
Comments
In this course students will explore the dynamics of young people's engagement with social media, including changing concepts of youth, digital identity construction, and the societal implications of youth social media. We will focus on the evolving landscape of social media to discuss the production and consumption of media by the younger demographic. Questions explored include: What is the relationship between social media and youth culture? How do young people approach identity construction through social media? How does social media influence perspectives on community engagement? To answer these questions, we will engage in a critical reading and analysis of youth cultures and social media literature, examining changing usage patterns across various platforms, from mainstream social media to niche subcultures. Integral to the curriculum are ethical considerations, where privacy concerns, digital media literacy, the shared responsibilities between users and platforms, and digital activism are thoroughly examined. close
