Caves, tells and dakian forts - Romania's prehistory

Transylvania is rich in raw materials and archaeological sites! Gold, silver and salt were mined here early on. Copper and bronze were processed into a variety of objects and deposited in graves. Tells can be found alongside flat settlements, some of which are huge in size. In the Iron Age, the Dacians built their castles on the top of hills and mountains, and the subsequent history was eventful and characterized by interactions between numerous communities, not least the Magyars and the Transylvanian Saxons. In the seminar, we first learn about the geographical and chronological foundations from the Palaeolithic to modern times. In presentations, the students will present important sites that we will visit during the excursion. The presentations will then be compiled in an excursion reader. We are seeking financial support for the excursion. close
