SoSe 24: Die Sinne in der Geschichte. Von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart
Daniela Hacke
Comments
Sensory history is a very dynamic field that is currently experiencing an enormous international upswing. Sensory historians share the premise that the "sensorium is a historical formation" (David Howes) and is culturally variable. In terms of methodology, sensory history is generally considered a perspective (Mark Smith), a promising approach that is used to explore and understand the past and is not limited to a specific field of research. A sensory history perspective can be applied across epochs in a wide range of different research contexts. This makes sensory history one of the most powerful approaches in historical studies today.
The lecture series aims to explore the potential of sensory history in a cross-epochal context, from antiquity to the present day. To this end, recognized experts will give insights in their lectures into their respective research areas
