Comments
This introductory course is designed to help students develop a comprehensive understanding of the key developments and social changes that have taken place in China since the founding of the People’s Republic in 1949.
The first part of the course will provide students with essential foundational knowledge of contemporary Chinese society, particularly from a developmental perspective.
Once students have established this foundation, the course will shift to a theme-based format. Each subsequent lecture will focus on a significant aspect of social change in China, addressing topics such as education, global engagement, and legal reform.
This course will be taught completely in English, but students who wish to improve their Chinese may request Chinese reading materials from the instructor.
