Public history covers work in museums and memorial sites as well as in political foundations, private associations, economic enterprises or public media institutions. In the seminar we will look at the fields of practice in these areas and the possibilities of presenting history there. We will discuss this with experts from different fields and develop initial analytical approaches for dealing with the presentations of history.
The aim of the course is on the one hand to get a broad overview of possible fields of work for public historians and on the other hand to gain insights into the production of different history presentations. In addition, content-related but also political and ethical limits of public history will be discussed on the basis of various examples. The focus will be on historical-political, medial and economic aspects of individual "products".
