Comments

The majority of member states in the United Nations belong to the category of small and micro states. When analyzing their foreign policy behavior, the focus is not only on their small size and lack of resources, but also on their economic success through financial and other services despite their structural disadvantages. Added to this is their voting power in international organizations. The small island states of the Caribbean, like the states of the Central American isthmus, must be regarded as weak economies with particular vulnerability. As “option takers”, cooperation partners such as the USA, the EU and China or leading powers in the region are key for these small states, as is joint regional action. close
