In this hands-on course, participants carry out their own research projects on the topic of "Representations of East Asia, Representations of the Self in Social Media" and learn how to design and execute their own research projects, exploring how East Asia is represented and how individuals from East Asia present themselves on digital platforms. Throughout the course, students will master the essential techniques of hybrid ethnography, gaining in-depth knowledge and practical experience in social media research, digital ethnography, participant observation, qualitative interviews and data analysis techniques. Students will reflect on methodological issues through the lens of their individual projects, enhancing their ability to adapt and refine their approach. Proficiency in one East Asian language is required, ensuring that participants can engage with primary sources and conduct interviews effectively. close
