Julia Stier & Clara van den Berg
Comments
The seminar will provide foundational knowledge and practical examples in qualitative methods, focusing on migration and civil society research. We will introduce key concepts and methods ranging from qualitative case studies and interviewing to (digital) ethnography and participant observation. Following this, we will demonstrate how to apply these approaches using examples from migration and civil society research. In the first part of the seminar, we will cover key concepts and methodological approaches, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages within a qualitative research design. We will specifically discuss different epistemologies and the application of meta-theory and theory relevant to distinct methodological approaches. The second part of the seminar will build on this foundation by practicing interview techniques and preparing your own qualitative research design. We will discuss various approaches to data collection and analysis. Practical examples will be drawn from migration and civil society research. close
