Comments
This course is a text-based seminar (Lektüreseminar) focused on exploring ancient and medieval Korean history within a global context through the lens of transdisciplinary material culture studies. The primary goal is to introduce students to key topics, issues, and questions involved in writing object-based histories of Korea. We will discuss the relationship between people and "things"—artifacts, commodities, religious paraphernalia, and other physical items—and how they were designed, made, used, and moved into/beyond the Korean Peninsula from/to neighboring regions like China and Japan, the Siberian Steppes, and along the Silk Road to the Middle East. close
