During course sessions the instructor speaks mainly in English, but participants are free to communicate either in English or German.
Comments
The course serves as an introduction to the methodological approaches in the field of East Asian art history. The aim is to guide students toward independent and scholarly analysis of artworks. Through practical exercises on individual objects, the course covers the fundamentals of scientific working methods - bibliographic research, determining the state of the field, source study, citation methods, oral presentation, and term paper preparation - as well as basic methods of art history. Students will read texts on methods and their application to objects, which will lead to the development of problem-oriented research questions and their scholarly examination. Intensive study of the assigned reading materials in preparation for the sessions is crucial to achieving good learning outcomes. close
