Advanced seminar
WiSe 24/25: Mobility, Pilgrimage and Sacred Spaces
Claudia Liebelt
Comments
This seminar offers an introduction to the anthropological study of pilgrimage, mobility and sacred spaces. We discuss different approaches to the study of pilgrimages as well as the question of what is specific about these forms of travel? As we will see, pilgrimage studies are a theoretically thrilling and interdisciplinary field that includes phenomena such as secular pilgrimage and dark tourism. The seminar has a regional focus on the Middle East and a thematic focus on the politics of pilgrimage and gender. close
