Una Europa Podcast - Building the University of the Future

The Una Europa Podcast is an ongoing podcast series by members of the university alliance that will introduce people, projects and stories from Una Europa. The aim of our series is to provide insights and perspectives into the manifold activities of Una Europa towards our goal of “Building a University of the Future.”

#13 - Student Engagement

Episode thirteen of our Una Europa Podcast series features four students who actively participate in our university alliance. We are given insights into the work of the Student Board and the Local Student Task Forces, and we will hear more about the Una Europa Summer School for students on the topic of One Health.

#12 - Diversity & Una.Together

In episode 12 of our Una Europa Podcast, we learn more about diversity and in what ways it is crucial for our university alliance, which by now consists of eleven partner universities.

We talk to Gabi Rosenstreich, head of FU Berlin's diversity & antidiscrimination office, who is also part of Una Europa's Diversity council. In a second interview segment, we discuss with students about their experiences with Una.Together, a seven-week long online program that challenged students to join forces in intercultural and interdisciplinary teams to advance the inclusion of diverse student bodies in our universities.

#11 - Live My Life - Job Shadowing

The eleventh episode of the Una Europa podcast is jam-packed full of speakers from all stops on the Live My Life journey - from the pairs brought together through the program to the people coordinating the initiative from behind the scenes. Listen to hear personal insights from the program, the value of learning outside of your own "office", and the new skills and connections developed through peer-to-peer learning.

#10 - Sustainability & Teaching

In the tenth episode of our Una europa Podcast, three experts talk about the topics of sustainability and climate change, and in what ways they are part of university curricula.
In order to learn more about how these topics are integrated in joint degree programs, micro-credentials and lifelong learning programs, our experts will discuss these questions:
How can students and teachers play an active role in shaping these issues? Where are bridges from the university to society and also to climate activism necessary? And what does it mean to think of the university "horizontally" in this context?

#9 - One Health

In episode 9 of our Una Europa Podcast we hear from three experts of One-Health related disciplines about the interconnections of health issues with humans, animals, and the environment. For example, what risk does antimicrobial resistance create for our ecological and social systems?

#8 - 2nd Una Europa Student Congress

In the eighth episode of the Una Europa podcast we hear from three Una Europa who travelled to Madrid for the 2nd Una Europa Student Congress. Marco Reyes-Bernal (JU Kraków) moderates a discussion with Lovina Okonkwo (FU Berlin) and Louise Girard (Paris1) who talk about challenges, ideas, and future visions for the work of students in Una Europa.

#7 - European Degree

In this seventh episode of the Una Europa podcast, two experts on the European Degree invite us to take part in the exciting process of shaping this innovative transnational program format. Sharing their knowledge and front-row experience, our two invited speakers draw from the distinct viewpoints of their respective European University Alliances as they discuss their most pressing challenges and explain how the European Degree is different from other existing joint degrees.

#6 - Una.Futura - Open Innovation Design Process

In this sixth episode of the Una Europa podcast we hear from two students who participated in Una.Futura, Pradeep Kumar and Matilda (Lily) Anderson, as well as associate professor Dr Mateusz Lewandowski who was involved in the organisation of the event and also facilitated one of the student teams. Our speakers reflect on their experiences of Una.Futura, what they learned and why Una Europa students should engage with these opportunities for transnational collaborative work offered by the alliance.

#5 - Joint PhD in Cultural Heritage

The fifth episode of our Una Europa Podcast introduces the very recent Joint PhD Program in Cultural Heritage and virtual PhD workshops in this focus area.

In the first part of this episode, Markus Edler (Dahlem Research School, FUB) speaks with Maria Gravari-Barbas (Paris1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) about the Joint PhD Program "Una-Her-Doc". The second part introduces Sabine Volk (JU Kraków) and Virginia de Diego (UC Madrid) who talk about their experiences with the PhD workshop. Both segments reflect on advantages and challenges to the interdisciplinary and transnational PhD program and PhD exchange between our eight partner universities.

#4 - Future UniLab

The fourth episode of our Una Europa Podcast series introduces the Future UniLab.
Bartosz Brożek (JU Kraków) speaks with three visionaries of the Future UniLab: Soledad Garcia Ferrari (University of Edinburgh), Henna Pursiainen (University of Helsinki), and James Lamb (University of Edinburgh).
Their conversation addresses the work of the visionaries, how to think out of the box and the roles of sustainability and digital collaboration for the university of the future.

#3 - Seed Funding & Dialogues with Policy-Makers

The third episode of our Una Europa Podcast introduces a Seed Funding project titled "Dialogues between Policy-Makers and Academia". The host Herbert Grieshops interviews María Latorre (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and Jan Wouters (KU Leuven) on their joint multidisciplinary research project. They talk about their experiences with policy-makers, about the transfer of knowledge from academia to society, and how Una Europa enhanced their research endeavours.

#2 - Una Europa Students & Student Congress 2021

The second episode of our Una Europa Podcast introduces the Una Europa Student Board: How did they keep working together during the pandemic? What are their tasks? And what are their plans and visions for the future of the European University? Host Felix Hoffmann (FU Berlin) interviews Weronika Łukaszyńska (JU Kraków) and Alexander Clark (KU Leuven) on these topics and the first Una Europa Student Congress (24 February 2021).
