If you are a post-doctoral researcher and want to spend a 12-month research stay abroad followed by a 6-month research stay at a self-selected university or university-related research institution in Germany you can now apply for the DAAD „Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience“ (PRIME) programme, which offers you a fellowship that covers the entire 18-month period.

Please note that the country of residence for the first 12 months can be any country outside Germany, but countries where applicants have spent more than 12 months in the three years prior to the application deadline are not eligible and that applicants are expected to take up a longer-term professional activity in Germany at the end of the fellowship.
