The Discipline of the World Economy: Émigrés against the Global New Deal, 1936-1980

Quinn Slobodian is assistant professor of modern European history at Wellesley College. His first book, Foreign Front: Third World Politics in Sixties West Germany, was published by Duke University Press in 2012. As a postdoctoral fellow of the Volkswagen Stiftung and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation at the Dahlem Humanities Center in 2013/2014, he will work on a new project titled The Discipline of the World Economy: Émigrés against the Global New Deal, 1936-1980. The project recasts and globalizes the intellectual history of neoliberalism, finding its origins in a mid-century move to contain the demands of decolonization and development that threatened to upend the world's racialized division of labor.
