We had a lot to celebrate at Dahlem Research School's summer party on July 12, 2024:

* numerous good-humored and weatherproof guests,
* the newly elected doctoral representatives at Freie Universität
* the success of the initiative to reintroduce the semester ticket for doctoral researchers
* and last but not least, our fantastic doctoral supervisors!

After a warm welcome by Prof. Beate Paulus, Deputy Academic Director of the DRS, Prof. Cornelia Reiher (Japanese Studies) and Prof. Christian Lammert (Political Science, JFKI) were honored with the DRS Award for Excellent Supervision. In his laudatory speech, Prof. Stefan Rinke, Academic Director of the DRS, emphasized the importance of taking time for doctoral researchers and treating them as equals. Together with Prof. Barbara Fritz, winner of the 2021 Award, Ms Reiher and Mr Lammert then talked to many interested doctoral researchers about what constitutes good supervision. The topic tables on Elsa Neumann Scholarships, doctoral research at Freie Universität Berlin and the DRS Qualification Offers also met with lively interest.

Maren Vogel and Sophie Eicher had already introduced the new Doctoral Council and Martin Konvička reported on the reintroduction of the semester ticket for doctoral researchers. Their commitment was recognized by all the guests with great applause.

Music makes everything easier: our summer party was accompanied by the truly outstanding Matti Klein Soul Trio, who kept the good mood going despite the rain. The party was great fun and we would like to thank everyone involved!
