Garden waste

Partly >>> biowaste, partly >>> special disposal via Sustainability & Energy Management Unit

Occasional (potted) plants and flower (bouquets) from offices and other rooms are bio-waste. The current structure of biowaste disposal at Freie Universität Berlin is still under construction. Disposal facilities for biowaste are not available everywhere. Please also see the information under Organic waste.

If very large plants, e.g. from staircases, are to be disposed of, please contact the Sustainability & Energy Unit, Special Waste Disposal Team, or your janitor to discuss the disposal in individual cases.

The same applies if plant and soil waste is regularly generated in scientific facilities.

Classical garden waste such as green cuttings, shrubbery cuttings or leaves usually only occur in larger quantities in the course of green area maintenance. The companies commissioned by the property management (Unit IIID of the Technical Department) are also responsible for the disposal or recycling of this waste from green space maintenance. Any additional small amounts of garden waste must be disposed of as organic waste, as described above, unless a compost heap is available on the property.
