Request a Translation

Submitting a Request and Processing

Please use the form below to submit a request. We can only accept requests from university employees working in the central administration or department administrations, or at one of the university's central facilities or libraries. We will get back to you shortly with a confirmation email.

Processing times vary according to many different factors, including the length of the document, terminological complexity, and our current workload. However, in general we are able to deliver translations within about two weeks, so please schedule accordingly.

Priority will be given to requests from the Executive Board and its subsidiary offices, as well as from heads of central administration divisions and central facilities. We also do our best to meet the needs of the academic departments’ administration offices, though we are not always able to do so.

We do *not* provide services for the following:

  • Support for student writing or individual documents
  • Projects that will be graded or are otherwise required as part of an academic qualification
  • Departmental works related to specific research areas
  • Book-length manuscripts
  • Copyrighted material for commercial use, for which the university does not hold the copyright
  • Web content for individual department websites (content related to the study and examinations offices constitutes an exception)
  • Offices or projects that have budgeted funds for translation and editing services can contact us about potential involvement in late-stage editing and consistency checks for university terminology.

If you are a student from Freie Universität, preparing to study abroad, and need a translation of your transcript of records, please contact your department’s examinations office. For more information, visit our “Transcripts” page.

Project Planning and Management

Failure to plan time for translations in high-intensity or long-term projects can result in scheduling conflicts and delays. This is especially the case if your project consists of multiple subprojects, a variety of text types and lengths, and a number of different project managers.

Please remember to include us in your planning! You can do so by heeding the following points:

  • Consult us when plotting out your projected timeline. The translation process is made up of a number of editing steps and involves in-depth research, so you will need to factor in plenty of time for us to submit queries and polish drafts of challenging texts.
  • Do not send us your project until you have composed the final approved text – subsequent revisions will cause disruptions to our workflow and will result in delays.
  • Provide us with the contact details of a central coordinator for all of your subproject translations, as having each project manager send in their respective text makes it difficult to maintain a clear overview on our end.
