FAQ Enrollment

Important for all those who wish to enroll at the FU

Please send your application for enrollment to the e-mail-address relevant for your application:

Bachelor (also concurrent enrollment): imma-bachelor@studium.fu-berlin.de
State examination (VetMed, Pharmacy, Law): imma-staatsexamen@studium.fu-berlin.de
Master (also concurrent enrollment, continuing education Master): imma-master@studium.fu-berlin.de
Doctorate: imma-promotion@studium.fu-berlin.de

The subject is always: Last name, first name, applicant number (or concurrent or promotion if you do not have an applicant number).

These addresses are only for submitting applications for enrollment /  applications for a change of degree program. If you have further questions about enrollment, please contact the Info-Service Studium or refer to our website "FAQ Enrollment", as the above e-mail addresses ("imma-xxx@studium.fu-berlin.de") will not answer any questions.

After your application has been received a confirming email will be sent to you. Your application will be processed within approximately three to four weeks thereafter.

This depends on your choice of degree objective and whether the course is with or without admission restrictions. In the case of subjects with admission restrictions, you receive a notification of admission after admission has been granted, or in the case of a subject without admission restrictions, a notification of enrollment. You will receive both via the application portal and you will submit them together with the application for enrollment and the required documents. In the case of enrollment for doctoral studies, you will not receive the notice of admission via the application portal but from the responsible doctoral office/DRS.

Log in to the application portal of Freie Universität. The overview page will open. Click on "View or edit my applications". On the right side you will find your applicant number under "Personal Information".

Your enrollment application must be submitted before the deadline. Should further documents be required you will receive an alerting email, stating your new deadline to submit the missing documents. Please check your spam folder as well.

The enrollment application is specifically structured to apply to all applicants. This means it asks for information that may not apply to you. Please leave the fields that do not apply to you blank. The person processing your application will add the relevant information for you later in the process, based on the documents you have submitted.

Yes, please submit the enrollment application by the deadline. It is important that you have requested the electronic notification. The electronic notification can also be sent to us by the responsible health insurance provider after the end of the enrollment period.

If you have provided information on study-related activities in the online application for an undergraduate degree program and have been admitted to the university's selection process (quota: "Auswahlverfahren der Hochschule"), submit a copy of the relevant proof together with the application for enrollment.

Before the start of the semester: If you do not wish to begin your studies at Freie Universität Berlin after all and have decided against studying at Freie Universität Berlin, you can cancel your enrollment in Self-Service with the button "Return of Study Place".

After the start of the semester: Please use the application for de-registration in the Self-Service Portal.

Limited enrollment

If certain requirements are not met (e.g. admission to a Master´s degree program without already having a Bachelor's certificate, language pre-study language courses, Studienkolleg, mandatory German language courses), enrollment is limited. When re-registering for the semester after the time limit has expired, the required proof of qualification must be provided, otherwise you will not be able to continue your studies.

If, for example, the relevant Bachelor's certificate is not yet available for enrollment in a Master's degree, enrollment is limited to one semester. Proof of the Bachelor's degree must be provided for re-registration in the second semester.

Also in an exchange program students are enrolled for a limited period of time. It is not possible to re-register for the same exchange program after this time.

Already studied at FU

This depends on the degree program you wish to transfer to. Please read here which application you need to fill out.

If Freie Universität Berlin was the last university you attended in Germany, you do not need to submit a certificate of exmatriculation.

Self-chosen name

A change of name for Trans, Intersex, and Non-Binary Students during the enrollment process is possible. For more information, please refer to our website.

Doctoral programs

Please state the study program according to your admission to doctoral study.

Exchange program

If you would like to continue your studies at Freie Universität Berlin after the end of an exchange or scholarship stay and obtain a degree, please inform yourself here about the courses offered. Please note the relevant admission requirements.

Minors
